The container services at Port of Shimizu started in 1970.
Since then, along with the rapid growth of container cargo productions in the Hamamatsu area, a container terminal was developed at the Sodeshi Wharf 1 following the container terminal development at the Okitsu Wharf 2 in Shizuoka. In June 2002, the Shin-Okitsu International Container Terminal was also opened as a part of the services at the Port of Shimizu. Upgrades to the container yard will be continuously carried out.
